Vanderlaan Newland Real Estate
Vanderlaan Newland knows what it means to be Texan. They are a family-owned independent real estate agency based in Denton, TX and serve the North Texas real estate market.

Your Name(s) and Title(s):
Karl Kirchoff, Listing Coordinator

Where are you located?
Denton, TX

Why Denton?
Because Denton is 30 minutes from one of the biggest cities in the country and 30 minutes from the middle of nowhere. Because Denton is the kind of town that hosts the North Texas State Fair and livestock judging contests and also has The Shins and The Books playing in our local clubs.

How many people does your company employ?
8

What does your company do?
We are a real estate agency.

Who are your clients?
Our clients are people buying their first house, developers purchasing multi-million dollar tracts of land, people listing farm and ranch land that has been in their family for generations, or people investing in acreage for agriculture, hunting, or recreation. We work with everyone!

What has been your greatest success?
I think our greatest success is building a business and a reputation that people speak well of. It's not terribly difficult to have a real estate agency with dozens of agents grinding out deals and money in any way possible. But we're very proud of the long-term relationships we build with clients who like the way we treat them, and the way we do the right thing.

Very positive. Everyone likes our new website. And working with Creative Suitcase has been very pleasant.

Featured Client for November/December 2006
Story Workshop
Story Workshop combines education and entertainment (read: edutainment) in Malawi, Africa to create positive changein the country. We recently helped them develop a new Web site and in the past have developed a special fundraising invitation email.

Your Name(s) and Title(s):
Janie Hayes, Communications Director

Where are you located?
Malawi, Africa and on the web at www.storyworkshop.org.

How many people does your company employ?
15 professional staff; approximately 5-10 support staff (drivers, messengers, etc)

What does your organization do?
Story Workshop is an educational media Non-Governmental Organization (international version of a nonprofit organization) that combines education and entertainment to make create positive change for Malawians. We work in areas of health, food security, the environment, gender and HIV/AIDS, using a range of media, including radio, print, village theatre and music to get our messages across.

Who are your clients/constituents?
Our major clients are the people of Malawi, mostly rural subsistence farmers, which make up 85% of the population of Malawi. Our website targets donors, funders and supporters worldwide.

What has been your greatest success?
Probably our major radio program, a radio soap opera called “Zimachitika” (in the local language Chichewa it means, “It happens.”), which has been airing weekly since 1996 and still reaches around 6million listeners every week. You can hear a clip from Zimachitika on our website in our interactive Listen-and-Look Studio.

Where do you find inspiration?
We find inspiration in the people and environment of Malawi. Despite the incredible challenges they face, Malawians’ culture, lives and culture make for rich and inspiring stories, dialogue and music.

Where do you want to be in five years?
We want to be right here, still working hard for a Malawi that is more healthy, secure, well fed and democratic than it is today.

Why did you choose Creative Suitcase?
When I joined the Story Workshop in Malawi, Africa, one of my first projects was to create a new website. We had some very specific technical and creative requirements, which meant that we needed someone who could meet these demands, as well as create a look and feel that matched the mission and vision of our organization. Our main target audience is prospective partners and funders worldwide, so the site had to be both compelling and informative. As always, Creative Suitcase exceeded my expectations in terms of professionalism, timely turn-around and a wonderful product.

What results have you experienced with us?
We now have a new website that meets all of our technical requirements, incorporates our look-and-feel, stays true to the culture of Malawi and provides us with a great space to get the word out about what we do. We are sure that web traffic will increase and hopefully the site will help us to raise more money from an international audience to support the critical work that we do here in Africa.

Top items in your suitcase (your favorites)
Travel destination: Right now, Malawi, Africa
Take home souvenir: Smiles of Malawian kids
Web site: www.jimmyandjanie.com (Shameless self-promotion. Yep, check out our adventures in Africa from a personal perspective.) Also designed by Creative Suitcase.
Malawi original: Nsima, the staple meal of Malawians. Think thick grits from Georgia and you’ll get the idea.

Adlucent
These guys know Search Engine Marketing. They've done the research and become experts in a field that keeps the rest of us guessing. We're always amazed by how friendly and knowledgable they are, and with each project from them, we're pushed to deliver our creative best.

Your Name(s) and Title(s):
Michael Griffin, Founder

Where are you located?
508 E 53rd Street, Suite 101, Austin, TX 78751

Why Austin?
http://www.adlucent.com/company/austin-advertising.html

How many people does your company employ?
6

What does your company do?
Search engine marketing, product level marketing for online retailers, usability, ecommerce bid management, and search engine optimization.

Who are your clients?
Fortune 500 online retailers and small local service related companies.  Local clients include www.pestcontrolaustin.com, www.bootstrapstudent.com, www.tastechip.com, and www.coffeeresearch.org.

What has been your greatest success?
Helping local companies double their business by applying some of the same techniques we use for national customers.  A recent client is observing 36% lead rate and a 27% conversion rate from all Web traffic generated by Adlucent.  We’ve found that with strategic marketing, local clients can afford to outsell their national rivals.

Where do you find inspiration?
We’ve compiled “best of” books related to every aspect of our business.  These books set a bar, which Adlucent continually strives to exceed, for each new client.  We are also encouraged to spend a portion of our time each day on projects of our choice, which will eventually get wrapped into our core service suite.

Where do you want to be in five years?
We’ll continue to develop comprehensive solutions for online retailers to further establish Adlucent as a  major force in ecommerce online marketing.  We also view Adlucent as an incubator of online technologies.  We plan to launch an economical call tracking software solution for customers whose conversion occur over the phone and a new consumer-focused price comparison Web site.

Why did you choose Creative Suitcase?
Creative Suitcase has a phenomenal design aesthetic and provides welcome new insight into larger projects where branding and identity are at a premium.  When asking Austin business owners who they turn to for Web design and branding, Creative Suitcase came up several times.

What results have you experienced with us?
With a recent redesign of our company site, we’ve seen a doubling in the length of site visits.  We now aim to drive traffic organically and through PPC to take advantage of the enhanced “stickiness.”
